The award-winning Fergus Falls Daily Journal has an opportunity for an energetic reporter who aggressively pursues breaking and spot news, acts as a vigilant watchdog for readers’ interests and tells a good story.
The Journal — a healthy, six-day-per-week newspaper with a local market penetration of more than 48 percent — is looking for a writer who thrives under a tight deadline and eagerly reports in multiple formats, including web, newsprint, magazine and social media.
The full-time position is perfect for a journalist in the dawn of his or her career looking to build a repertoire of clips, from spot, crime and political news, to magazine features and plenty of enterprise reporting. The reporter we hire will also build a social media presence and expand his or her photography skills. (Photography experience is not necessary, just a willingness to learn.)
Fergus Falls offers small town amenities and is a hotbed for outdoor activity, from golfing, fishing, swimming and water skiing, to walking and biking trails, concerts and myriad other entertainment. It’s the largest city in resort-centric Otter Tail County, which claims more than 1,000 of Minnesota’s 10,000 lakes. Fergus Falls is about an hour from Fargo, North Dakota, and two-and-a-half hours from Minneapolis-St. Paul.
The position offers paid vacation, health and dental insurance, sick leave, paid holidays, a generous holiday bonus and 401k.
