The Messenger, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, is seeking an energetic managing editor for our newsroom’s top leadership position. We publish a 7-day a.m. daily newspaper, as well as other weekly and monthly niche publications.
Fort Dodge (population 26,000) is the county seat of Webster County and is enjoying robust growth.
We are looking for an editor to oversee the creation of quality local news content for print and digital platforms. Our editor must be self-motivated, community-oriented and passionate about local news. We need a skilled leader who can coach and motivate a staff eager to grow.
The Editor oversees a newsroom staff which includes a city editor, sports editor, farm editor, lifestyle editor and a staff of reporters. While leading the newsroom, the editor is also a key member of the senior management team with a voice in strategic initiatives. We need someone who is digitally focused as we use the web and social media extensively.
Applicants should have a newspaper management background and versatile skills that include writing, editing, photography, columns, editorial and pagination. Other key attributes included effective communication, good time management, the ability to train others, and the willingness to become part of an active community.
