The Faribault Daily News is looking for a reporter, but we won’t settle for the ordinary. We need someone who’s equally comfortable writing an enterprise piece on budget trends or a feature on an interesting resident, and who will tweet about it all the while. This position will cover Faribault economic development and business, city government and criminal justice—Rice County courts.
The successful applicant will have a digital first mentality, insatiable curiosity, an excellent grasp of interviewing and writing techniques and a demonstrated knowledge of how multimedia enhances reporting. Reporters who thrive on process and institutional stories need not apply.
Other requirements include:
– Four-year post-secondary degree in related field, or comparable practical experience in a work environment.
– Experience using a wide range of social media tools including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram and SnapChat. Are you on Periscope? That’s a big plus.
– Technical competence with Word and Web-based content management.
– Video and blogging skills a significant plus, as is fluency in speaking Spanish.
