Night Reporter

(6/27/22) The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead is seeking a night reporter to join the largest daily newspaper in North Dakota. We are looking for a driven reporter who is eager to keep readers informed on breaking news, local meetings and ongoing community issues.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Covers breaking news stories and evening meetings, as well as developments in ongoing stories from day shift reporters.

Generates own ideas for daily and long-term stories that take readers beyond the competition’s reporting.

Collaborates with WDAY TV partners to ensure coverage of evening and late-night happenings.

Develops a beat that includes knowledgeable and diverse sources

Collaborates with photographers and uses website functions to create engaging content for web and print publishing.

Plans coverage with editors, including passing on information for the morning staff to follow.

Pays attention to local, regional and state issues that other reporters and wire services are covering.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience in journalism is required. At least one year of experience in a professional newsroom is preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Ability to handle deadline stress and work on deadline.

Approachable demeanor to relate with people in the community.

Ability to balance competing demands, set priorities and juggle several issues at once.

Computer skills in word processing and database management.

Strong writing and interviewing skills, including the ability to listen to interview subjects and take accurate notes.

Knowledge of freedom of information and libel laws.

Exhibit a sense of fairness and sensitivity to all readers and subjects of articles.

Must possess a valid driver’s license and a driving record that is insurable by the company.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, talk and hear, close vision and distance vision.

Required to use hands to finger, handle, feel or reach with hands and arms; climb or balance.

Lift and or move up to 10 pounds.

Works in close proximity to others.
