From covering mass shootings to daily crime stories, reporting on traumatic events can be challenging for journalists, professionally and personally.

Panelists

Join Barbara Reyelts, news director for the Northlands News Center, and Mike Creger, a reporter at the Duluth News Tribune, as they discuss reporting on traumatic events. They will be joined by VA staff psychologist Dr. Jude Henningsgaard and Lt. Jason Hanson of the Minnesota State Patrol to talk about how they, although in a different professions with different objectives, also interview people after traumatic events and cope personally with the job’s emotional stress.  Panel moderator is Dr. John Hatcher, associate professor in journalism at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

The event is free and open to all journalists. A light breakfast will be provided.

Parking is available in the station’s lot or in nearby Canal Park streets and parking lots.
