Find them at the Inland Group Executive Conference
When the men and women responsible for leading multiple newspaper properties come together in September for the industry’s only conference exclusively for group executives, they will meet at a facility designed for the way news is gathered and distributed today.
Inland’s Group Executive Conference will meet at the new headquarters of the Star Tribune in the heart of Minneapolis, a space Editor Rene Sanchez called “a real opportunity for us to step into the kind of future we need to have in journalism” when the staff moved in March.
Group executives will be greeted by Star Tribune Publisher and CEO Mike Klingensmith and others on the media company’s executive team who will review the initiatives the paper has made into digital services and other areas.
Among the presenters at the conference will be Matt Lindsay, founder and CEO of Mather Economics LLC who will tackle the topic of big data, and how it can be used to grow revenue and audience in editorial, circulation and advertising.
“Editorial can use data to optimize the distribution channel, pacing, and mix of content, an analysis we call ‘content cadence,’” he said, describing his session. “Audience can use subscriber-level digital data to augment their existing print data and to track digital-only audience members. We calculate digital customer lifetime value, and we can develop acquisition, retention, and product bundling campaigns. We would describe the dynamic meter strategy in this section. And finally advertising can use first-party data sell targeted impressions at a premium price. They can also use data to determine how best to sell their inventory.”
The conference will feature of panel of CEOs and COOs sharing the strategies, successes, challenges and opportunities they’ve identified in their operations, including the subjects of benchmarking, recruiting, innovation and communication across operating units.
Liz Crider, director of affiliate success for the white-label promotions firm Second Street, will look at how quizzes, ballot and deal cards are driving significant revenue for newspaper. “You’ll walk away with a plan and actionable next steps for how you can capitalize on these opportunities,” she said of the session.
Camille Olson, a partner with the Chicago law firm Seyfarth Shaw LLP, will update group executives on legal issues, including ways to minimize financial risk.
