Mining Stories from the 2020 Census
March 20, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm
FreeEvent Navigation
The 2020 Census count kicks into high gear in March 2020 when invitations to respond land in millions of mailboxes across the United States. Stories covering it will go on through 2022 and beyond. Political power and big dollars in government funding are at stake. But watchdog agencies and advocates question whether the U.S. Census Bureau is prepared, and whether it is doing enough to reach hard-to-count groups in an age of mistrust.
This webinar will explain the ABC’s of census-taking, what’s new about the 2020 Census, the impact of census numbers and the challenges to counting everybody.
We’ll talk about how to access 2020 Census data, including the first numbers from the count (which come out in December of 2020) and detailed local statistics set to roll out in early 2021. You’ll preview story ideas informed by the numbers and discover trends you can write about now.
