Yet the mail is critical to many community newspapers and is often the only way to reach readers living outside the newspaper’s local circulation area. Changes in the US Postal Service have made a hard job harder. Closed processing plants, earlier critical entry times, complex integration with Postal One, changes in bundle preparation are all part of the big picture now.

Successful printers must understand the changes. Publishers have to understand mail preparation requirements to avoid sending subscriber copies astray, causing late delivery and unhappy readers.
