MNA committees meet three to five times per year to advise MNA staff and the board of directors about member programs, MNA initiatives and industry trends.
Advertising/Digital Media Committee
Advances Minnesota newspapers through advertising research, promotion, revenue-generating ideas and sales strategies. The committee:
- guides MNA’s advertising service and makes recommendations to the board of directors about MNA sales programs.
- oversees development and implementation of digital online revenue programs for members and the industry.
- recommends advertising training topics for MNA members.
- researches technology and new media strategies, making recommendations to the board of directors about programs or vendor relationships.
Member Services Committee
The Member Services Committee plays a key role in MNA’s member benefits. The committee:
- makes recommendations to the MNA Board of Directors for new member services and offers suggestions for programming.
- reviews applications for MNA membership.
- reviews proposals from vendors seeking to market products or services to MNA members.
- oversees the annual MNA professional newspaper contest.
Legislative Committee
The Legislative Committee meets in January and as needed throughout the year. The committee:
- oversees and guides the association’s legislative priorities.
- reviews the agenda for upcoming legislative sessions at the MNA annual newspaper convention each January.
- monitors government activities and makes recommendations to the board of directors regarding association lobbying efforts.
Journalism Education Committee
Advances journalism on behalf of Minnesota communities. The committee:
- encourages strong college, high school and community-based journalism training programs through an internship program and other strategies.
- recommends reporting, photography/video, ethics and digital journalism training for MNA members.
- hosts the annual Better Newspaper Contest for Minnesota student journalists.
- performs outreach to Minnesota’s college journalism programs.
