Veterans Day ad: Book to honor vets, Michelle Delvecchio, Northern Light Region – Readers submitted photos of those in service. Went to readers and extras could be bought for $1. No charge to those submitting. 3 months to put together. 32 page glossy pages, $12,000 in sales, printing was under $2,000.

Christmas Elves Page – Echo Press – Limited to 25 businesses, match business with photo of where sales rep was. People try to find where the elves were.

Going out for business – Kerkhoven Banner – Ted Almen – kbanner@tds.net Paid people $5 to subscribe for 6 months from a business that wasn’t paying his bill. 180 people participated.

Best of Contest – Randy Roberts, White Bear Press – kowdown@presspubs.com – Worked with Second Street, online voting contest. 3 years – has built every year. Community nominates businesses, narrow down to 5 per category, voting phase, Sell vote for me packages, graphics for social media, announce winner and a couple of finalists. $70,000 revenue – announced in special section. Sell the winners and finalists.

TV Guide – Kristi, West Central Tribune – csteffel@wctrib.com Used News Media to produces tv guide. Turned the traditional point package of52 weeks into Best – Better – Good Packages – print ad, shopper, daily, with digital component, $221,000 revenue. Goal for 2023 – $370,000. TV Listings, streaming, puzzles, revenue in 2021 – $365,000, 2020 – $256,000, 2019 -$219,000

In Memoriam Section – Steele County Times – Rick Bussler, rbussler@steelecountytimes.com, Section featuring all those who have passed away in the previous year. We sell ads to funeral homes, hospitals, and assisted living places. Revenue $2,500

Christmas Kids Drawings – Independent News Herald, Jenny Krueger ads@inhnews.com– have 5th & 6th grade Christmas Drawing. – businesses sponsors the drawings, publish with special section that has K-4th grade letter to santa – $5-6,000 revenue.

Cutest Couple Contest – Echo Press Amny Skanka askanka@echopress.com Photos submitted for custest couple. Cast a vote – 25 cents. Donated to Some Place Safe. Donated $1877.50 to the nonprofit last year. Winning couple received gift cards and subscription membership

Summer Events Packages – Lake County Press – Laura Lee Costley – lcostley@cherryroad.com 12 week commitment packages, 20 businesses, $50/week, – advertising through the summer live music, fishing, charters, kayak & canoe, breweries- $12,000 for the summer

Community Pride – Worthington Globe, Anna Rogers– arogers@dglobe.com Members of the community nominate citizens, businesses, or organization that has made a positive impact in the community. Editorial then selects a number of people/businesses and writes a story about them. We then sell ads to local businesses to sponsor the stories.

Multi-sweeps – Albert Lea Tribune/Austin Daily Herald, Crystal Miller miller@albertleatribune.com Multiple sponsors on simple online registration. Used Second Street platform. The same as our Best of Contest, Entry was simple, email, name and phone, Winner received $200 Prize Package, 2nd place was a newspaper digital subscription. $9,600 per paper. Doing one per month. Different gnome each month. Businesses pays $200 and a $25 gift card.

Statement/billing flyers – Planning for special sections – Stevens County Times – call to action. Olivia Bungum olivia@stevensctime.com When we send out monthly invoices, we include a flyer with ongoing deals, upcoming specials, etc. It has checkboxes & a place to fill out information for your ad and contact info. It worked better than plain flyers because it served as a call to action. The revenue varies. Went from 0 responses to 25-30 each month, sometimes more

Real Estate – difficult to work with – charge more for the work, ½ page and then ½ page article on the real estate market. Matt McMillan, White Bear Press.

Hockey Day Minnesota – White Bear Lake, Special Section for Hockey Day MN – had to go in front of board to get approval to be part of the project, Ran calendar of events, coverage in paper, $14,000 revenue

Family Matters – Family Tips, baby contest, 25 cents per vote. ABC’s in it and sold to companies as well as family matters ads-$2,570, $1928 to nonprofit NO CONTACT SHEET FILLED OUT

Pet Page – pets are huge, sections are so well read. Have a large sponsor. It doesn’t have to be pet related NO CONTACT SHEET FILLED OUT

Headlines Podcast – In for a minute – The Forum Lisa Tillotson ltillotson@forumcomm.com – Daily podcast under 90 seconds with ads 60 without ads. Updates of daily weather and biggest headlines, sponsorship money. Couple hundred listeners a day. $6-10,000/year. Have to have the man power.
