Join the Minnesota News Media Institute and trainer Steve Gall, for a daylong workshop about advertising layout and design. The content of this session will focus on good design and copy development rather than computer hints and/or shortcuts.
This workshop will help you better understand effective layouts and will cover the eight elements of design. Steve will share layout tools and copywriting sequence. He will also help you pull your tools together more efficiently.
The workshop will also help you in developing better spec ad layouts, and prospecting through layouts.
In short, topics covered will include: Elements of Design, How to Use Them, Layout Order, Copy Order/ Hierarchy, Good Samples, Bad Samples, Where to Look for Good Ideas, etc.
Who should attend? Beginner – intermediate advertising sales professionals; graphic designers new to newspapers and/or advertising will also benefit.
Steve Gall is a 34 year veteran of the newspaper/interactive industry. Most recently he has served as Director-Multimedia Sales for the Pioneer Press and twincities.com of Digital First Media, VP Advertising for the Tacoma (WA) News Tribune and the Anchorage (AK) Daily News, as well as Publisher of the Vail (CO) Daily. Previously, he served as VP Advertising for the Knight-Ridder Duluth News Tribune and VP of Sales & Marketing for Murphy McGinnis Media in Duluth as well. Gall received his BFA degree in Graphic Design with a Business minor from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
