MINUTES OF THE MNI BOARD OF DIRECTORS’ MEETING, OCTOBER 10, 2013
Park Square Theatre, St. Paul. MN
Present: Chris Schultz, Pete Mohs, Rollin Bergman, Kevin Anderson, Joni Harms, Mike Jacobson, Jim Pumarlo, Marge Winkelman, Jason Brown, Mike Dalton, Debbie Evans, LuAnn Yattaw, Lisa Hills and Sarah Bauer
Absent: Tony Carideo
The meeting was called to order at 11:00 a.m. by Chairman Jacobson.
The minutes from the April and June 2013 board meetings were approved on a motion by Schultz, seconded by Mohs, unanimous.
Debbie Evans reviewed July, August and September financial statements and balance sheets. The financial report was approved on a motion by Brown, seconded by Harms, unanimous.
Jacobson stated that one of the long-term goals is to position MNI as the resource for training for MNA members.
Yattaw reviewed revenue opportunities for convention. She has secured several new tradeshow vendors and silent auction items. All board members agreed to donate a case of wine valued $10 per bottle to the wall of wine.
Bauer reported that MNI applied for another three-year grant from Blandin Foundation to continue the Editor and Publisher Community Leadership program. MNI will hear in December, if the funding will be available.
She also reported that 65 High School interns worked over 10,500 hours at member newspapers through the Pohlad Family Foundation Internship program. In December, The Pohlad Foundation will notify MNI about funding the program in 2014.
MNI will be adding more programming to its 2014 schedule as well as sending a monthly newsletter to MNA members.
